Description:

This course presents the why’s and how’s for organizing, modifying, and improving the operation of industrial calibration and repair. You will also examine the standards and criteria for evaluating a present or proposed laboratory or shop.

You will be able to:

  • Determine accuracy, precision, sensitivity, repeatability, and error as used in calibration and evaluation equipment
  • Explain terminology and procedures for zero, span, and linearity adjustments
  • Calculate accuracy and error
  • Apply standards such as those used in the ISO 9000 requirements for calibration
  • Audit and evaluate traceability, calibration records, procedures and work instructions, and calibration personnel/training
  • Perform a calibration system review

You will cover:

  • Terminology: Accuracy Rating | Measured Accuracy | Precision | Sensitivity | Gain | Repeatability/Hysteresis | Errors Response Time
  • Calibration: Defined | Calibration Curves | Data Sheets | Chart Analysis
  • Calibration Problems: Zero Shift | Span Error | Linearity Error | Miscellaneous Errors | Accuracy Calculations | Limits
  • Auditing a Calibration Program: Traceability | Records | Procedures and Instructions | Intervals | Reviews
  • Calibrators: Accuracy | Operation | Calibration Tailoring | Calibration Forms
  • Obtaining Standards and Literature: Contact Information | Interpreting Standards Requirements | Addresses | Telephone Numbers | E-mail Addresses

Classroom/Laboratory Exercises:

  • Calibrate and record the data from process measuring equipment using established standards and procedures
  • Input collected data in a Calibration program, print reports, and evaluate
