Since September 11, 2001 the world has learned that many of the automation systems that support critical infrastructures are insecure. These are Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems and they control power generation, water treatment and oil and gas pipelines.

This web seminar provides an introduction to SCADA Systems, covering typical SCADA applications, as well as system components and architecture. This course is designed for managers, engineers and IT professionals who want to learn how a SCADA system differs from traditional IT systems.

You will be able to:

  • Learn what SCADA systems are
  • Determine which industries apply SCADA systems
  • Explain the purpose of RTUs, MTUs, and Field Devices
  • Describe basic SCADA configurations and how components are connected
  • Recognize key differences between SCADA and office IT systems
  • Understand what components comprise a SCADA system

You will cover:

  • Basic Concepts of SCADA: Types of Control Performed | Historical Perspective | Industry Applications
  • SCADA Components: Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) | Field Devices | Master Terminal Units (MTUs)
  • Typical SCADA Architecture: Simple | Complex
  • SCADA Application Considerations: What Not to SCADA | Architectural Considerations

Equipment & System Requirements:

  • Touch-tone telephone with a speakerphone for the audio portion of the live seminars
  • Internet connection running at 28.8 bps or faster
  • Java-enabled browser (Netscape Navigator 4.04 or later or Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.01 or later)
  • Computer monitor large enough for all participants to view or projection system to project the presentation for larger audiences.
