Description:

"This course helped me understand our MES environment in the context of the ISA95 standards, from a potential improvement to our interfaces perspective, and also what is included in a MES from ISA's perspective."
- Ana Vargas, Project Manager

Manufacturing execution systems (MES) and other manufacturing operation systems, such as maintenance and quality management, are difficult to specify, design, and implement. These systems often overlap with business logistics systems, batch execution systems, and manual and automated control systems. They also have significant integration requirements with other systems. The ANSI/ISA95 standard addresses these problems by providing a robust definition of the activities at the manufacturing operations layer, including MES, maintenance, and quality operations; and the integration points of operations with business logistics applications. This seminar teaches a standard terminology and model that you can use to evaluate and specify manufacturing operations systems for production, maintenance, and quality.

You will be able to:

  • Describe your requirements for MES, maintenance management, and quality and inventory management systems in vendor neutral format
  • Analyze your manufacturing operations and determine the lines of responsibility and technical integration between operations and logistics systems
  • Identify the business drivers for improved manufacturing operations
  • Identify the manufacturing control processes that need information from business systems

You Will Cover:

  • Standards and Models: ANSI/ISA95.00.01Standard | ANSI/ISA95.00.03 Standard | MESA International Model
  • Production Processes: Detailed Production Scheduling | Production Tracking | Project Resource Management | Product Definition Management | Production Execution | Production Dispatching | Production Process | Product Analysis
  • Maintenance, Quality, and Inventory Processes
  • MES Project Implementation

Classroom Exercises:

  • Identify business drivers for manufacturing operations improvements
  • Identify responsibility and technical boundaries between manufacturing and logistics
  • Identify actual logistics—operations boundaries based on business reasons

Includes ISA Standards:

  • ANSI/ISA95.00.01-2000 - Enterprise-Control System Integration, Part 1: Models and Terminology
  • ANSI/ISA95.00.02-2001 - Enterprise-Control System Integration, Part 2: Object Model Attributes
  • ANSI/ISA95.00-.03-2005 - Enterprise-Control System Integration, Part 3: Models of Manufacturing Operations Management
