Description:

This lab-intensive class focuses on digital valve controller fundamentals, the configuration and calibration process, the diagnostic capabilities, and the utilization of computer-based diagnostic tools. 

This course offers you hands-on working knowledge of digital valve controllers (DVCs) with an emphasis on advanced information gathering, decreased maintenance time, ease-of-use, and diagnostic capabilities. You will cover use in conventional systems and enhancements/improvements when combined with digital control networks. You will also be exposed to hand-held communicators and computer-based configuration and maintenance database software, plus integral touch-pad configurations.

You will be able to:

• Identify the advantages of DVCs
• Identify the effects of using DVCs in closed loop control
• Configure, re-range, and calibrate control valves fitted with DVCs
• Test the capabilities of HART™ communication
• Test the diagnostic capabilities of DVCs

You will cover:

• Digital Valve Controllers:
  • Digital Positioners
  • DVC Configuration
  • Control Valve Tuning 
  • Diagnostic Tools

Classroom/Laboratory Exercises:

• Configure DVCs using hand-held communicators and computer-based software
• Perform control valve testing, re-ranging, and calibrations
• Perform diagnostic tests on smart control valves

Recommended Pre-requisites:

• Prior attendance in ISA courses FG07 AND TI25

OR

• Experience in digital transmitter fundamentals, application, and maintenance
