Length: 1 day
CEU Credits: 0.7
Course Hours: 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
Description:
People define programmable logic controller (PLC) systems and distributed control systems (DCSs) differently—some by their functions, some by the industries they serve, some by their architecture, and some do not use the word at all. This seminar is intended to explore the issues related to and reduce confusion about these “so-called” new systems.
You will be able to:
-
Discuss with your control system supplier and define the meaning of the words used
-
Identify the various issues surrounding Hybrid Systems to determine which may impact your process or plant
-
Describe the basics of some of the various technologies involved with Hybrid Systems
-
Recognize the differences between PLCs, DCSs, and Hybrid Systems and their significance in your applications
-
Identify the insights needed for selecting a system
-
Recognize process automation trends and how they may influence your decisions on plant control
-
Design a path to further your knowledge of distributed processor systems for control
You will cover:
-
Hybrid System Issues: Process and Discrete Influences | Differences from DCSs and PLCs | Four Definitions of Hybrid
-
Architecture Migration: Original and Current Hybrid Systems | Simple PLC+PC vs. Hybrid Systems
-
Networks for Communication: Moving Messages | Access Protocols | Traditional and Current Ethernet | OSI Reference Model
-
Application Interface Options: DDE – OPC | Typical Communication Models
-
Conventional vs. Fieldbus Signals: How Fieldbus Works | Field Based Control Example | Different Fieldbuses
-
Future Distributed Evolution: What is “Open”? | Configuration Standard | Domains of Control System Types
-
Industry Trends and Corporate Challenges
