General Information

Welcome to the 2009 Industrial Automation Safety and Security Symposium!

Sponsored by the ISA Safety Division, the 2009 Industrial Automation Safety and Security Symposium will provide an in-depth look at today's safety technologies and procedures associated with identifying and mitigating safety hazards in industrial environments. For the first time this symposium will focus not only on Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) topics, but also include material on cyber security and associated challenges in designing and implementing SIS and process automation solutions. This year we are excited to deliver technical demonstrations and presentations that will challenge attendees and presenters alike, providing practical and useful guidance for designing industrial processes, selecting SIS, and protecting these systems against cyber threats and unsafe dangerous failures alike.

Keeping plants protected from dangerous failures and unsafe conditions is always a high priority. With the continued emergence of integrated safety systems, increased integration of business systems to the shop floor, increased awareness of security vulnerabilities and with hazards in industrial processes, asset owners and suppliers are turning an increasing level of attention to protecting processes not only against random hardware faults and Safety Integrity Levels, but also in protecting processes from cybersecurity failures that can have safety impacts.

This event is intended to create a forum where paper presentations and panel discussions transfer information from leaders and experts on safety and control to industry professionals.

Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Safety instrumented systems (SIS)
  • Alarm management
  • Cybersecurity
  • Control systems security
  • Understand how cyber vulnerabilities can cause real process hazards
  • and more

In addition to industry expert-led sessions, an onsite training course will be offered:
