RC4 is the encryption algorithm that powers both WEP (Wired Equivalency Protocol) and WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access). RC4 is a robust encryption method that is also used by many protocols to provide secure transmissions over the Internet. Unfortunately, WEP is a poor implementation of RC4, leaving it susceptible to being compromised. The WPA implementation of RC4 fixes those flaws while remaining computationally similar so that existing hardware can still be used.
