Overview: Basic Process Control Series - Electrical Connections

This course explains the importance of sound electrical connections, including the different types of conductors, splices and cables and how to install electrical connections in instrumentation and control loop systems.
Objectives:

  • Recognize the different types of wires used in electrical connections
  • Recognize the procedures for making a crimped splice connection and an in-line splice connection.
  • Recognize the proper technique for soldering a wire using resin core solder
  • Recognize the proper technique for preparing a coaxial cable connection
  • Recognize the different procedures for connecting a solid conductor and a stranded conductor to a terminal
  • Describe the purpose of grounding
  • Recognize the NEC guidelines for classifying hazardous locations and the differences between the two divisions
