ISA and O3neida Series of Books
An ongoing publishing partnership between ISA and O3neida has produced several new technical publications on current automation subjects of interest. The following list shows the current titles in the series with two additional books expected to be released in late Summer/early Fall.
- IEC 61499 Function Blocks for Embedded and Distributed Control Systems Design - a primer on the IEC 61499 standard by Dr. Valeriy Vyatkin.
- Real-Time Execution for IEC 61499 - provides an analysis of dynamic reconfiguration and the execution behavior of IEC 61499 by Alois Zoitl of ACIN at the Technical University of Vienna.
- Safety Profiles for Real-Time Ethernet-Based Industrial Automation Networks - offers a clear introduction on real-time communication systems and functional safety concepts, the methods and techniques necessary to achieve real-time communication and functional safety compliance within industrial production systems according to the IEC 61508 by Alberto Elia, Luca Ferrarini, and Carlo Veber.
- Modeling, Control, Simulation and Diagnosis of Complex Industrial and Energy Systems - more than 40 authors contributed to this compilation of 14 papers that stem from the 50th anniversary conference of ANIPLA, the national automation society of Italy. Luca Ferrarini and Carlo Veber, Editors.
- Domain Ontologies for Reasoning Machines in Factory Automation - targets the topic of knowledge representation and reasoning machines and introduces the concept of domain ontologies. Jose L. Martinez Lastra, Ivan M. Delamer, and Fernando Ubis (release date - Summer 2009)
- Agent-Based Technology Manufacturing Control Systems - a practical guide focusing on a new design technology and process specifically conceived for reconfigurable manufacturing system control. It represents a very first integrated application in real industrial environments of agent-based technology, ontology-based description, and IEC 61499-based automation systems for production systems. Luca Ferrarini and Arndt Luder, Editors (release date - Fall 2009)
ISA Books Compilations
ISA has compiled select books into libraries to represent each of the seven domain areas. Each set includes works which complement each other in providing the reader these resources:
- Fundamentals — a primer on the domain, but includes advanced concepts
- Hands-On — a practical guide with lots of applications and examples
- Management — covers everything from project management to cost justifications
- Reference — a handy, fact-filled volume with quick answers to common problems
- Diversion — a sometimes offbeat look at the industry, to keep it all in perspective
