Apply for an ISA84 Certificate Program

Certificate 1: ISA84 SIS Fundamentals Specialist (ISA84 SFS)

No application required. Register for the certificate program on the ISA website when you register for one of the following courses:

• Safety Instrumented Systems, Design, Analysis and Justification ( Course EC50) or the instructor-assisted online course Safety Instrumented Systems, Design, Analysis and Justification ( Course EC50E).

Certificate 2: ISA84 SIL Selection Specialist (ISA84 SSS)

Complete and send the application to ISA prior to registering for the course and exam. Register for the course and certificate program on the ISA website after receiving confirmation from ISA that you are eligible to sit for the certificate program.

• Submit your completed application as an email attachment to ISA at least six weeks before the course start date.
• ISA will email you at least four weeks before the course start date to inform you of your eligibility to register for Certificate Program 2.
• If you are eligible to sit for Certificate Program 2, go to the ISA website and register for the certificate program.
• Successfully complete the 2 day instructor-led training course Advanced Safety Integrity Level (SIL) Selection ( Course EC52).
• Within one week of the end of the course, you will be emailed an eligibility code to take the certificate program exam at a Prometric testing center.
• Go to www.prometric.com/ISA to locate a Prometric electronic testing center near you, enter your testing eligibility code, and schedule your exam date and location.
• You will receive an email from Prometric confirming your test date and location
• Report to the testing center at the scheduled time, carrying a valid government issued photo identification with signature, and the confirmation email you received from Prometric.
• You will receive your pass/fail results immediately after testing at the Prometric test center.
• You must successfully complete the certificate program exam within three months of the last day of the certificate program course.

Certificate 3: ISA84 SIL Verification Specialist (ISA84 SVS)

Complete and send the application to ISA prior to registering for the course and exam. Register for the certificate program on the ISA website after receiving confirmation from ISA that you are eligible to sit for the certificate program.

• Submit your completed application as an email attachment to ISA at least six weeks before the course start date.
• ISA will email you at least four weeks before the course start date to inform you of your eligibility to register for Certificate Program 3.
• If you are eligible to sit for Certificate Program 3, go to the ISA website and register for the certificate program.
• Successfully complete the 2 day instructor-led training course Advanced SIS Hardware Design and Analysis ( Course EC54) and exam.
• Within one week of the end of the course, you will be emailed an eligibility code to take the certificate program exam at a Prometric testing center.
• Go to www.prometric.com/ISA to locate a Prometric electronic testing center near you, enter your testing eligibility code, and schedule your exam date and location.
• You will receive an email from Prometric confirming your test date and location
• Report to the testing center at the scheduled time, carrying a valid government issued photo identification with signature, and the confirmation email you received from Prometric.
• You will receive your pass/fail results immediately after testing at the Prometric test center.
• You must successfully complete the certificate program exam within three months of the last day of the certificate program course.

Exam Retake

If you fail the exam, you make re-take the exam one time during your three month testing window for an additional fee of $150. After the three month window, if you have not taken and/or passed the exam, you must re register for the certificate program (course + exam) if you would like to pursue the certificate.
