Attention Textiles Members - Your Input Is Needed

Dear Members,

The Textiles Technical Interest Group of ISA is creating a professional development reference list to assist members. Would you be willing to share how you learned what you know and how you would recommend others learn about the textiles industry? It would also be helpful to hear about the difficulties you faced in acquiring your knowledge, how you surmounted those difficulties, and what areas still need some documentation.

Please answer some or all of the following questions. But don’t let this list constrain you. We are interested in hearing all your ideas on this subject, as well as “war stories” about education and professional development. {Forward your responses to both Perry Grady and Louis Fuka. E-mail addresses for both are at the bottom of this letter.}

1. What books, articles, or other resources (Web sites, videos, instructional courses) would you recommend to a technical individual who is inexperienced with textiles?

2. What books, articles, or other resources would you recommend for a layman who wants to learn more about textiles?

3. Which resources are most useful to you? Which ones do you consult most frequently? Which one would you most hate to lose?

4. What is your field of interest within textiles? How did you get involved with it? How did you learn about it? How do you stay current?

5. What areas of textiles need a good book written about them? Why? Where do you go to get information about that area?

6. What area of textiles do you think is changing most rapidly? Is the literature keeping up? If not, how do you get information on this area?

7. What channels of communication would you like to see within the textiles industry?
