Many processes produce significant emissions of NOX , CO, CO2 and other green house gases that are highly regulated by the EPA. Achieving the regulatory agency-mandated up-time with continuous emissions monitoring systems can be costly and difficult to maintain properly. Failure to meet the requirements will result in stoppage of production and significant fines.
Predictive modeling is a more accurate and cost effective alternate solution to typical hardware-based systems. It utilizes powerful analytic models of the emissions sources with real-time sensor validation to provide predictive emission values with unparalleled accuracy.
This discussion will explain predictive modeling and how it has been used very successfully to not only meet the regulatory agencies requirements but to increase uptime and significantly reduce maintenance costs. We will also discuss how this advanced predictive modeling can be used to save energy and increase production in other manufacturing processes.
Glenn received his BS in Electrical Engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering and his MS in Electrical Engineering from Northern Illinois University and has over 20 years’ experience control systems. He started his career with an aerospace division of Invensys engineering control systems for manufacturers like McDonnell Douglas and Boeing. Glenn joined Rockwell Automation in 1995 and held several positions developing and marketing variable speed drives and industrial controls. Glenn is currently working with customers to develop markets in the Northeast district.

I thank all of you who attended our February meeting where WISA member Cullen Langford presented on Control Valve Selection. Cullen drew from the ISA Control Valve Handbook section that he authored to provide guidance and advice on properly selecting control valves. He closed his interesting presentation with a discussion of various control valves available on the market today. It was particularly nice to see a few new faces along with our regular attendees. Thank you to those of you who forwarded our meeting invitation on to others who might be interested. Please continue to do so.
At our upcoming meeting on March 26th, Glenn Frazier of Rockwell Automation will present on the use of Predictive Modeling technology for continuous emissions monitoring systems for compliance with environmental regulations. I look forward to Glenn’s presentation and hope to see you there as well.
On April 23rd, we will have our annual Shrimp Boil. This is our section’s largest and most-anticipated social event each year. If you are interested in sponsoring the Shrimp Boil, please contact Lee Cline. For only $125, Friends of the Shrimp have the opportunity for a table-top display at the event. Moore Scholarship to a graduating high school senior attending a 4-year college/university or technical training school. Given the technical focus of our society, candidates pursuing a technical or science degree will receive preferential treatment. The deadline for applications is April 8th. We will present the scholarship at our most festive occasion - our annual Shrimp Boil on April 23rd.
On 5-7 November 2013, the ISA Fall Leaders Meeting and Automation Week will be held in Nashville, TN (http://www.isaautomationweek.org/). I am a member of the technical program committee and chair of the poster session. The call for papers has opened and abstracts are due by April 2nd.
