Activity
A joint meeting of the ISA12.13 subcommittee and ISA92 (Performance Requirements for Industrial Air Measurement Instrumentation Related to Health and Safety) committee took place on 13 and 14 March 2012 at the Homewood Suites in Orlando, FL. Comments on ISA-60079-29-1 Draft 7, Explosive Atmospheres – Part 29-1: Gas detectors – Performance requirements of detectors for flammable gases, were addressed. Draft 8 will soon go out for ISA12 and ISA12.13 ballot. Comments on ISA-60079-29-2 Draft 6, Explosive Atmospheres – Part 29-2: Gas detectors – Selection, installation, use and maintenance of detectors for flammable gases and oxygen, were addressed with editorial changes only. Draft 6 will soon go out for public review and ISA S&P Board ballot. ANSI/ISA-TR12.13.03, Guide for Combustible Gas Detection as a Method of Protection, has been released and is referenced in 2011 NEC Articles 500.7(K) and 505.8(I). Reaffirmation balloting of Performance Requirements for Open Path Combustible Gas Detectors standard ANSI/ISA-12.13.04 Edition 1 will be circulated soon per 5 year review cycle. IEC TC31 Maintenance Team MT60079-29 activities from their 4-6 April 2011 meetings were discussed. NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm) 17.10.2.1 Code Proposal was accepted, 17.10.2.2 proposal was rejected. Chair will monitor NFPA 72 Report on Proposal comments. Efforts to consolidate ISO 26142 Hydrogen Gas Detector Performance with IEC 60079-29 are being followed.
ISA-92.00.01 Edition 2, Performance Requirements for Toxic Gas Detectors, has been released as an ANSI standard replacing ISA-92.0.01-1998, ISA-92.06.01-1998, ISA-92.03.01-1998 and ISA-92.06.01-1998. Draft 2 of ISA-92.00.02 Edition 2, Installation, Operation, and Maintenance of Toxic Gas-Detection Instruments, was reviewed, modified and soon to be circulated to ISA92 for ballot. ANSI Project Initiation Notification System (PINS) has been obtained for ISA-92.00.03. A scope was developed based upon ISA Technical Report ANSI/ISA-TR12.13.03. Two members are developing proposed actions for consideration of an ISA-92.00.03, Guide for Toxic Gas Detection as a Method of Personnel Protection, document. An ANSI PINS was also obtained for ISA-92.00.04 Edition 1, Performance Requirements for Open Path Toxic Gas Detectors. Comments on Draft 4 of this document were addressed resulting in modifications requiring Draft 5 to be circulated to ISA92 for ballot. In accordance with 5-year reaffirmation cycle, ISA92 submitted the following for scheduled review: ISA-RP92.0.02, Part II-1998, ISA-RP92.02.02 Part II-1998, ISA-RP92.03.02-1999, ISA-RP92.04.02 Part II-1996, ANSI/ISA-92.04.01 Part I-2007, and ANSI/ISA-TR92.06.03-2008.
