ISA12.22, Explosionproof and Flameproof Enclosures

Scope

The committee shall survey and monitor national and international practices, as related to explosionproof and flameproof enclosures and related matters, (e.g., the effects of corrosion on such enclosures) and promote the understanding of the use of such equipment.

Purpose

To summarize current practices for explosionproof and flameproof electrical enclosures intended for use in hazardous (classified) locations.
To publish standards and practices for the selection, installation, and maintenance of explosionproof and flameproof enclosures.
To submit proposals, as needed, for revision to standards and practices relating to explosionproof and flameproof enclosures.

Activity

ISA12.22 recently met on 13 March 2012 at the Homewood Suites in Orlando, Florida. Changes in the upcoming seventh edition of IEC 60079-1, Equipment Protection by Flameproof Enclosures "d", were discussed at the meeting. This new edition is tentatively due for approval later this summer. In anticipation of the seventh edition being published, two ISA12.22 sessions are scheduled for the fall 2012 ISA12 meetings in Seattle to begin work on the next edition of ISA-60079-1.
