ISA12.10, Electrical Equipment and Area Classification for Combustible Dust Atmospheres
Scope
To formulate standards and practices for the design, installation, use, and maintenance of electrical equipment in combustible dust atmospheres, as defined in national and international codes and standards.
To promote the proper design, installation, use, and maintenance of electrical equipment to enhance safety in combustible dust atmospheres.
Purpose
1. To summarize current practices for the classification of combustible dust atmospheres.
2. To publish standards and practices for the design, installation, maintenance, and use of electrical equipment in combustible dust atmospheres.
3. To publish guidelines, conduct symposia, and otherwise extend knowledge for the use of electrical equipment in combustible dust atmospheres.
4. To provide guidance on national and international codes and standards for electrical equipment for use in combustible dust atmospheres.
Activity
ISA12.10 met on Wednesday, 24 October 2012 at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel, Seattle, Washington. Comments from draft 4 of ISA-60079-10-2, Explosive Atmospheres – Part 10-2: Classification of areas – Combustible dust atmospheres, were reviewed. Pending resolution of the one remaining negative vote, the document will be sent for review and publication. The section ballot for adding the test requirement back into ISA-60079-31, Explosive atmospheres - Part 31: Equipment dust ignition protection by enclosure “t", will proceed with the one outstanding negative.
ISA12.10 is not scheduled to meet at the spring 2013 ISA12 meetings in San Diego, California.
