ISA12.0, General Requirements for Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Locations

Scope

The committee shall survey, monitor, and participate in the development of national and international standards, practices, and codes addressing General Requirements related to the protection techniques for electrical equipment intended for use in hazardous (classified) locations.

Purpose

To summarize current practices and publish standards and practices for the General Requirements related to the protection techniques for electrical intended for use in Class I, Zone 0, 1, & 2 hazardous (classified) locations.
To submit proposals, as needed, for revisions to standards and practices addressing General Requirements.

Activity

The most recent ISA12.0 subcommittee meeting took place on 12 March 2012 at the Homewood Suites in Orlando, Florida.

The first ISA draft for the US adoption of the 6th edition of IEC 60079-0 was circulated at the end of 2011. The comments submitted were reviewed and the revised document was circulated for comment and vote in June 2012.

The IEC revision process has commenced for the 4th edition of IEC 60079-5, type of protection “q”. The CDV has been prepared and should be circulated to National Committees shortly. The progress of this document will continue to be monitored.

The IEC revision process has also commenced for the 4th edition of IEC 60079-6, type of protection “o”. A second CD is expected to be circulated after the next WG22 meeting in Oslo in October 2012. The progress of this document will continue to be monitored.

The next meeting of ISA12.0 will be October 2012 to review the submitted comments on ISA-60079-0, Edition 6, and develop a document for additional comment and vote, or publication, depending upon the comments received. The group will also continue to monitor the development of IEC 60079-5 and IEC 60079-6.

ISA12.0 approved the addition of Ed Leubner, Gary Weisenburger, and Matt Derr as information members.
