To provide the underground mining industry with industry consensus standards, recommended practices, and technical reports for the design and use of underground mining equipment and for equipment to detect materials within their flammable ranges; to provide the Mine Safety and Health Administration with industry consensus documents to aid in promulgating regulations under Title 30 Code of Federal Regulations; to participate in the development of international standards for such mining equipment.
The most recent ISA12.28 working group meeting took place on 22 October 2012 at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel in Seattle, Washington. The Mining WG prepared a comment for Annex A of ISA-60079-0 Ed. 6 intended to retain Group I requirements. Tom Dubaniewicz presented results from a paper “Are lithium ion cells intrinsically safe?” published in the proceedings of the IEEE IAS 2012 conference.
The ISA12.28 working group will meet next on 25 February 2013 at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel San Diego Downtown, San Diego, California.
