ISA12.28, Mining Working Group

Scope

Equipment used in mines susceptible to firedamp.

Purpose

To provide the underground mining industry with industry consensus standards, recommended practices, and technical reports for the design and use of underground mining equipment and for equipment to detect materials within their flammable ranges; to provide the Mine Safety and Health Administration with industry consensus documents to aid in promulgating regulations under Title 30 Code of Federal Regulations; to participate in the development of international standards for such mining equipment.

Activity

The most recent ISA12.28 working group meeting took place on 14 March 2012 at the Homewood Suites in Orlando, FL. The new ISA12 guide for adopting IEC standards indicates Group I mining clauses are to be retained. The guide is posted on the ISA12 web site. The WG reviewed Group I, Ma, Mb clauses in ISA-60079-0 Edition 6 draft 3, and comments were forwarded to the ISA12.0 Subcommittee Chair.
