Winter 2003/2004

Mark your calendar. The ISA Winnipeg section along with the MCAM

(Mechanical Contractors Association of Manitoba) have been working hard to

organize our next Trade ShowThe dates booked are Feb 18-19, 2004. The

show will be held at the Victoria Inn (formally the International).

We would like to run a two day training course some time in the fall, the

question is would there be any interest and what topics would your employer

find worthy of investing in. Visit;

http://www.isa.org/Template.cfm?Section=Education_and_Training&Template=/Taggedpage/trainingintro.cfm

for a list of possible courses. If there is any interest let me know.

To keep you in the loop, there have been few developments in our quest to

be included in or limit the scope of the Electrical Act.  David Fillion of

Magellan and Guy Newman of CTTAM have been working hard but there has been

little progress. The board responsible for the development of the changes

to the Electrical Act have little interest in allowing anyone other than

Electricians to assemble, install, commission, configure, program, or

modify anything with a wire.  That leaves non-electricians calibration and

maintenance.  David and Guy will continue to try to find some common ground

and are trying to impress the dangers of passing this legislation to all

affected party's.

Tim Sale is the Minister responsible for the Dept of Labour & Immigration.

Summer 2003

The Board of District VP's have agreed to allow us to change our name from

the Winnipeg Section to the Manitoba Section. I will contact Robertson

Shypit Soble Wood to start this process. We will be changing our name from

Instrument Society of America Winnipeg Section Inc to the Instrumentation,

Systems, and Automation Society Manitoba Section Inc.

If anyone has any advice or direction to give on this process please do.
