ISA12.24, Classification of Hazardous Locations for the Installation of Electrical Equipment

Scope

The committee shall survey and monitor both national and international practices for the classification of hazardous locations and promote the understanding of hazardous location classification.

Purpose

To summarize current practices for classification of hazardous locations for installation of electrical equipment.
To publish standards and practices for the classification of hazardous locations.
To submit proposals, as needed, for revisions to standards and practices (e.g., NFPA 497A & B, IEC 60079-10).

A Word from the Chairman

ISA12.24 comprises working groups that are reviewing IEC 60079-14, Electrical apparatus for explosive gas atmospheres - Part 14: Electrical installations in hazardous areas (other than mines) and IEC 60079-17, Electrical apparatus for explosive gas atmospheres - Part 17: Inspection and maintenance of electrical installations in hazardous areas (other than mines) as US adoptions. At this point, there is no interest in taking IEC 60079-19, Equipment repair, overhaul, and reclamation, forward as a US standard.
