ISA12.23, Encapsulation

Scope

The committee shall survey and monitor both national and international practices of encapsulation as a protection technique, and promote the understanding of encapsulation.

Purpose

To summarize current practices for encapsulation as a protection technique for electrical equipment intended for use in hazardous (classified) locations.
To publish standards and practices for the construction, marking, and performance of equipment, using encapsulation as a protection technique.
To submit proposals, as needed, for revisions to standards and practices outlining the various methods for encapsulation to prevent ignition of flammable atmospheres.

The revision of ISA-60079-18 (12.23.01), Electrical Apparatus for Use in Class I, Zone 1 Hazardous (Classified) Locations: Type of Protection - Encapsulation "m", will be available soon.
