PackML
Mission
Develop naming convention guidelines for communications between production machinery within the packaging industry.
Objectives
Collect, from users and suppliers line types definitions in common use, state names and definitions, tag names and definitions/data sets.
Line types definitions
A clear definition of the line types in common use defining a complete set from the standalone unit to the fully integrated and automated system unit.Machine state names and definitions
These define the machine states that are represented within packaging machinery for communication with host and peer systems providing state logic. Examples are “stopped”, “running”, “paused”, etc.Tag names and definitions/data sets
These include the fundamental names of the data elements (or “tags”) as well as the data types, values, ranges and where necessary data structures.
Consistent meanings of the data elements will be defined. Examples are “total run time”, “total productive time”, “total downtime”, “wastage”, “efficiency”, etc.
From this existing work, and new naming conventions that are suggested, arrive at a common set of well-defined naming conventions that OMAC can recommend as guidelines.
Promote the use of the guidelines by the industry to facilitate the communication and use of information from machinery to
-
other machinery
-
higher level information and control systems
Illustrate the benefits of using the guidelines to users and suppliers.
Work in liaison with groups that are developing naming conventions in other areas.
