Vladimir Stanley (Stan) Weiss, P.E., passed away on 10 June. In 1965, he formed Weiss & Assoc., which eventually grew to the Weiss Group with offices in Mississauga, Montreal, Calgary, Sarnia, and Newark, N.J. Weiss was an active member with the Montreal Section of ISA where he rose to president and later to vice-president of District 10. In 1987, he became the first Canadian President of ISA. He was also active with Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) and other provincial engineering bodies. He chaired the Engineering Innovation Forum for several years in addition to the committee evaluating foreign-trained engineers. Stan spent a lot of energy on standards, while also being committed to the education and development of the younger members of the profession.
Rudolph C. Frey, 84, passed away 11 July in Houston. Frey was an ISA Senior Life Member. After a short stint in the U.S. Army, he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering at Marquette University and Masters in Engineering from Cal-Tech. Frey began his engineering career in 1950 at KBR, formerly M.W. Kellogg Co., in New York and was still employed at KBR in Houston, serving 60 years as a dedicated engineer.
