ABB won orders worth $52 million to provide power products and solutions for a super-critical coal-fired power plant in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. ABB announced today the latest version of its System 800xA High Integrity safety system (SIL 3 rated) is now operating on StatoilHydro’s massive Troll A offshore gas production platform. The system went live earlier this month, on 5 June, and will control emergency shut down applications on the platform, located 70 km off the coast of Norway. ABB won an order worth $28 million from environmental solutions company Hyflux for a turnkey electrical solution to power the world’s largest membrane based reverse osmosis seawater desalination plant. The Magtaa desalination plant, being built in the western Oran region of Algeria, will have a capacity of 500,000 cubic meters per day of drinking water to serve about 5 million people. ABB signed an agreement with Sappi to manage maintenance operations at its Kraft Mill in Cape Town, South Africa—an agreement that covers a five-year period and is the first agreement of its kind for ABB in the South African pulp and paper industry.

BP America placed a $1.1 million order for flow meters from GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies. The meters will monitor 36 critical flow points for a new coker unit being built as part of BP Whiting’s multi-billion dollar refinery expansion.

Chandler Engineering, designer and manufacturer of high-pressure, high-temperature laboratory instruments and systems, will celebrate 60 years of service this year, and will showcase its product line at the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition, 4-7 October, in New Orleans.

Emerson Process Management will install its PlantWeb digital plant architecture with the Ovation expert control system at the Pakistan Engro Qadirpur Energy Power Plant, located in east-central Pakistan. Emerson is increasing the scope of its Electrical Reliability Services partial discharge testing for electrical cables to include switchgear and other electrical assets commonly found in commercial and industrial facilities, including manufacturing and process industries.
