Fluor buys on-demand computing
Armonk, New York - International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) said today that it signed a seven-year, $351 million deal to provide technology services to engineering and construction group Fluor Corp.
IBM will manage Fluor's technology operations worldwide and provide flexible pricing that enables Fluor to buy and access computing resources as it needs them.
The deal's structure is part of IBM's move to offer less expensive technology packages to its customers by selling them only what they need. They call the concept "on-demand computing."
The deal includes network infrastructure support, desktop and local computer network support, global computer server management, and help-desk administration.
