ExxonMobil patents low noise grease-making process
Olathe, Kans. – ExxonMobil has received a U.S. patent for a manufacturing process that makes grease for low noise applications.
Exxon said the process has been installed at the company's Olathe, Kansas, grease plant which makes the company's Exxon Polyrex EM grease.
"Since grease contribution to bearing noise is unacceptable in many electric motor applications, the advanced thickener formulation and our newly patented manufacturing techniques associated with Polyrex EM provide the consistent low noise performance desired in noise sensitive applications," said Tim Nadasdi, senior research chemist for ExxonMobil Research & Engineering.
Nadasdi said Polyrex EM's applications include electric motors used in noise sensitive applications such as dishwashers and blenders, as well as room air conditioners for hotel rooms.
"The effort that produced this technology is the result of the combined expertise of the heritage Exxon and Mobil lubricants companies," said Elizabeth Bennett, grease marketing manager – North America, ExxonMobil Lubricants & Specialties.
