District 6 Student Competition
Northwest Iowa Community College team claims top prize
In April, ISA District 6 held its 2010 Student Competition in New Richmond, Wisc.
The overall winner of the Sweep 6 Competition was Northwest Iowa Community College - NWICC #1. Team members were Jacob Van Der Stoep, Marshal Dreessen, Luke DeJonge, and Cody Peterson. The NWICC #1 advisor was Tim Floen. They were sponsored by the Omaha NE Section. The winning team was awarded $800.
The overall winner at the ISA District 6 Student Competition 2010 was Northwest Iowa Community College - NWICC #1.
Second place went to WITC New Richmond - WITC #1. Joliet Junior College - JJC #1 took third place overall.
Other student teams participating in the District 6 competition were: Mesabi Range Community & Tech - Mesabi #1; Mesabi Range Community & Tech - Mesabi #2; Northwest Iowa Community College - NWICC #2; Mitchell Technical Institute - Mitchell #1; Mitchell Technical Institute Mitchell #2; WITC New Richmond - WITC #2; North Dakota State College of Science - NoDak #1; North Dakota State College of Science - NoDak #2; North Dakota State College of Science - NoDak #3; and North Dakota State College of Science - NoDak #4.
The sponsors and judges for some of the competition exercises were:

- E&H – Radar Level Exercise: Travis Sauers & Dan Engstrand
- Yokogawa – Magmeter Flow Exercise: Mike Faust & Joe DeFoe
- Design Digital Exercise – Design a warning system for the hydraulic system on an airplane: Jason Haines & Elden Plettner
- Design Discreet Instruments Exercise – Design an Interlock system on a furnace: Pete Schuh & Russell Foust
The Bowl Exercise consisted of a question and answer session. The Bowl is 50 questions with a possible sudden death question at the end of the Bowl in the event of a tie. The Bowl determines the overall winner. Haines & Edward Meyers sponsored this exercise.
Judges were Meyers and Haines, and Meyers was also the coordinator of the exercises during the competition. Score keepers were Meyers and Haines, and time keepers were Bill Holub and Pete Schuh. The moderator was Elden Plettner. Will-DuPage and Fox Valley ISA Sections sponsored the breakfast and lunch during the competition.
