Division Leaders Brief

March/April 2001
Vol. 1-2

Welcome to the March/April 2001 Division Leaders' Brief. Please review this month's issue carefully for articles you'll find useful in managing your Division. And please pass this information on to other interested Division leaders and members.

Contents:

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE PRESIDENT'S WINTER MEETING

Thank you to all the Division leaders who were able to attend the 2001 ISA President's Winter Meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The minutes/action item list from the following meetings have been posted online:

If you have questions or comments please contact Kelly Bishop at kbishop@isa.org.

ALL DIVISION DIRECTORS---IT'S ANNUAL REPORT TIME

It's that time of year again when all Division Directors need to submit an Annual Report for their Division Activities. ISA has mailed Annual Report questionnaires to you, and they are also available online.

Please make sure to mail all the information to your appropriate H&A Committee and to Headquarters no later than 15 May 2001. If you have any questions contact Kelly Bishop or your Department Vice President.

ATTENTION ISA 2001 PROGRAM COORDINATORS

ISA has given you the ISA 2001 Technical Conference online programming schedule. Please note where your Division's programming slots are located and start plotting your sessions. Once you decide the day and time you'd like for your Division's individual sessions, send these assignments and corrections to Dana Dunkley at ddunkley@isa.org.

GET INVOLVED WITH ISA 2001

Since ISA conducts business all around the world, we receive papers from authors with diverse ethnic backgrounds for the ISA 2001 Technical Conference and Emerging Technologies Conference. As you can imagine, many authors who speak English as a second language need help with grammar and spelling. Not having the resources to proof every paper, we are attempting to put together an International Mentor Program. Therefore, we are asking for your help to give all international authors an opportunity to have their work published while still upholding ISA's high standards for quality.

International Mentor Responsibilities:

Work with international authors to correct

  1. Grammar mistakes.
  2. Spelling mistakes.
  3. Format errors to comply with ISA publishing guidelines.

Upon acceptance into the International Mentor Program, mentors will be notified of an international author wishing to participate in the program by 2 May 2001. If you are available and wish to volunteer as an International Mentor, or you have any questions regarding this program, please contact Dana Dunkley by 2 April 2001.

ISA STUDENT COMPETITION NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT

ISA International Student Competition will be held 9-10 September 2001, at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. Since 1993 ISA has held the International Student Competition in conjunction with the fall event. The competition attracts students from Mexico, Canada, Russia, Italy, and across the USA. Student teams compete in a question/answer, quick-draw Bowl, and a hands-on, problem-solving Practical.

A major challenge each year is to develop clear, concise questions for the Bowl. Once developed, ISA Fellows review the questions, but the initial challenge is to get the questions! This is where you can help -- and without attending a committee meeting or accepting any on-site responsibility! You can submit questions! See the guidelines for question developers.

SECTION/DIVISION REPORT
