ISA PRESIDENT'S WINTER MEETING, 9-13 FEBRUARY 2002 All Division leaders have been invited to attend the President's Winter Meeting at the Adams Mark Hotel in Jacksonville, FL. Here are the links to the agendas for the Division meetings: Division Leaders Planning Workshop Please also review the minutes from the previous Division meetings that took place at the President's Summer Meeting in Calgary. All Division Directors, Directors-elect & Facilitators will be receiving preparation packets prior to the President's Winter Meeting. The packets will include all of the above information and any supporting documents you will need to prepare for the meeting. Please remember to bring your preparation packets. If you have any questions please contact Kelly Bishop, Divisions Coordinator, or visit ISA President's Meeting page for more information. By now, most Divisions have elected their 2002 officers. If you have not already done so, please complete the Division Leader Report Form and fax it to Kelly Bishop, ISA Divisions Coordinator, at 919-549-8288. Or you may E-mail the file to Kelly Bishop. ISA needs the elected person's name, Member number, and the position to which he or she has been elected. With this information, ISA Staff will be able to serve your Division effectively by providing correct contact information on your Division's Web page and recognizing your leaders. HELP ISA PUT OUR BEST FOOT FORWARD As part of the brand identity activity initiated during 2001, ISA developed graphic standards for all Society communications. These standards allow ISA to present the Society in a consistent manner, with a color palette, specific fonts, and a stylized "look." By following the graphic standards, materials published by—or associated with—ISA are instantly recognizable. Members and customers will know immediately that what they're receiving is from ISA. If you develop printed material for your Division, please review and follow the guidelines in the ISA Graphic Standards Manual. Note, newsletters are treated differently from promotional materials. Details can be found in the guidelines. REMINDER TO ALL DIVISION PROGRAM COORDINATORS & DIRECTORS The ISA 2002 Technical Conference Call for Papers is online. Please submit your Division solicited applications before the 31 January 2002 deadline. If you have not yet selected a Division Program Coordinator, please do so immediately. The role of Program Coordinator is vital in building your exposure at the show. If you have any questions contact Richard Arriola, Technical Programming Coordinator, or call (919)-990-9303. A new ISA Web site will be unveiled in February 2002. These exciting changes will impact your Division pages and offer many new features, including:
The Division administrators will have some flexibility in colors, but the pages will have the overall look and feel of the rest of the site (i.e., they will use the same overall graphic template as the rest of the site). Broadcasting meetings is something ISA is working on as part of the Online Communications project. ISA headquarters is currently wrapping up a review of options for online meetings. Several options have been tested and more testing is anticipated for next year—hopefully using Divisions. Want to talk with a knowledgeable source? Contact Barb Baranski at ISA - Phone 919-990-9352. From the desk of L.M. "Dutch" Keen, P.E., Section/Division Liaison, the following is the Section/Division Report. CAREERS VIDEO FUNDING—REALITY CHECK ISA has an excellent careers video titled A Job for the Future - Careers in Measurement & Control. The video is the key tool that ISA uses to promote careers in i.s.&a. technologies to pre-college students. The video was released in 1995 and focuses on professionals working in wet process industries, primarily in process control. ISA needs to expand the message of the film to include markets that deal with measurement, instruments, systems, and automation solutions beyond the process control arena. This is a $40,000 project. Fortunately, several Divisions (Analysis, Chemical and Petroleum, Marketing and Sales, and Process Measurement and Control) plus the Denver Section have committed $7,000 to this project. Several other Sections are considering a donation to this activity. At the end of 2001, because of the business environment, all funds for this project were cut from the 2002 budget. Plans to have the new video available by the 2002 President's Summer Meeting were dashed. ISA invests $38,000 each year to distribute the video free of charge to teachers and guidance counselors in the USA and Canada. It is available in VHS format only. The video is also available to members who visit classrooms with the ISA message. As you see, this is not a new activity, yet aside from ISA Divisions, Sections, and industry friends, the New Activities Committee (now Research & Development Activities Committee) is the only recourse to fund this project. The earliest the committee will consider the project is the President's Summer Meeting in June. A positive ruling is highly questionable. For these reasons, funding for the remake of the ISA careers video needs support from all ISA Divisions and Sections - plus any friends you can identify. Those who contribute $500 or more will be recognized in the video credits. For more information or to arrange a donation, simply contact Laura Crumpler at ISA - phone 919/990-9232. SOMETHING YOU'D LIKE TO SEE IN THE BRIEF? The objective of this monthly missive is to present information that will be of most use to you, an ISA Division leader.
