ISA PRESIDENT'S SPRING MEETING Plan now to attend the ISA 2004 President's Spring Meeting, 24-28 April 2004 at the Westin Hotel in Long Beach, CA. This meeting will take place immediately prior to, and concurrent with the ISA Automation West Event, which runs 27-28 April, and will be held in the Long Beach Convention Center. Look online for complete information , including registration and housing. As of the date of this Brief, the following Divisions have requested that business meetings be scheduled: Analysis, ConDes, ChemPID, PMCD, Management, POWID (including subcommittees), FPID, Aerospace/TMD (joint meeting), and ROBEXS. If your Division is not listed and you desire a meeting scheduled, please email wpalmer@isa.org right away. Please also be aware that there will be a meeting of the A&T/I&S Advisory Board meeting (Sunday afternoon, April 25) in Long Beach, as well as a joint meeting of the A&T and I&S departments (Monday morning, April 26) DIVISION LEADERS ORIENTATION WORKSHOP ISA's Division leaders conduct much of their business at President's Meetings throughout the year. At the upcoming President's Spring Meeting in Long Beach we will be conducting our annual Division Leaders Orientation Workshop on Sunday morning, April 25. The workshop is designed to help incoming and incumbent Division leaders with matters such as budgets, business plans, newsletters, annual reports and the like. We'd very much like to accomplish training that Division leaders would specifically like to be covered. If there is a particular subject you would like covered at this workshop email wpalmer@isa.org . DIVISION LUNCHES AT ISA EXPO 2004 Eight Divisions (Analysis, WWID, Safety, FPID, Marketing & Sales, PUPID, TELCOM, and PMCD) held very successful and enjoyable luncheons at last October's event in Reliant Center in Houston. Time to plan for your 2004 event . Division directors desiring to hold a luncheon this fall should make this known immediately to wpalmer@isa.org . If your Division has not done this in the past, maybe this is a good time to start. Forms and submission instructions for Division Annual Reports were sent out on January 9 to Division directors. If you have not already done so, please note that these reports will cover calendar year 2003, not the traditional July to June time period. This was done in order to make the reporting period coincide with the Division directors' terms of office, and also to conform with the new schedule on which the Society Honors & Awards Program operates. This has unavoidably caused, for this transition year, the report to cover part of the time already covered in the report submitted in 2003. These reports are your best opportunity to let the Society know what you have been doing, and they also form the basis for the awards for Outstanding and Most Improved Divisions. There are many Divisions that provide outstanding service to their members and support to the Society, yet go unrecognized. Please use this opportunity to let the world know how successful your Division has been. Reports are due by February 27 (extended from February 15) to your respective Department's Honors and Awards Board. Remember to submit a copy of your report to each member of the board, along with a copy to ISA headquarters. Division Directors should review their director's message on their Division site on a frequent basis and update as necessary.... at least twice per year, and after every major Division event or Society event in which your Division plays a role. Your members are anxious to know what the Division is doing, what it has accomplished, and to hear from their leader. Please send updated director's messages to wpalmer@isa.org for posting. 2004 Division key dates are now available online under Division Leaders Resources (Members & Leaders > Leader Resources > 2004 Division Calendar). These key dates are designed to help Division Leaders plan their activities for the upcoming year and stay on top of all deadlines. Why not take a moment to have a look, so a deadline does not jump up and bite you. Division newsletter submissions have been quite scarce since the distribution last September of the Summer Newsletters on CD. Division members are anxious for technical articles, their leadership's viewpoints on ISA EXPO 2003, industry trends, standards information, etc, etc. Time to get rolling on these. HONORS AND AWARDS AND FELLOW NOMINEES SOUGHT BY ISA Great individual satisfaction comes from peer recognition. A major objective of ISA is to recognize and acknowledge outstanding contributions by individuals to the Society and to the instrumentation, systems, and automation profession. The 2004 Honors & Awards Committee encourages you to nominate deserving individuals for service and technical recognition. Award information and deadlines can be found on the ISANetwork. Nominations are also being sought for ISA's highest level of membership: Fellow Grade. To be eligible, the nominee must have been a Senior Member of ISA for five years by the time of election (not nomination), and the election requires a majority vote by the Executive Board of the Society. Please nominate someone who possesses outstanding and acknowledged engineering or scientific attainments. Look for Fellow information on the ISANetwork. Remember that no one will be honored or recognized without first being nominated by YOU. If you have any questions concerning Fellow nomination please contact Laura Crumpler at lcrumpler@isa.org. Questions regarding Honors and Awards should be directed to deby@isa.org . VALVE ACTUATORS COMMITTEE SEEKS INPUT ISA standards committee SP96 on Valve Actuators has regrouped under the leadership of a new chairman, Vince Mezzano of Fluor Corp. The committee is seeking input and participation, especially from ISA members at end user companies, as it proceeds to develop a terminology standard on valve actuators and other possible related standards documents. SP96 is organized with subcommittees on pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric actuators. For more information or to get involved, contact Charley Robinson, ISA staff, crobinson@isa.org or 919-990-9213. |
