Wireless Update: Understanding and Implementing ISA100

The ISA100 standards committee, Wireless Systems for Automation, and the ISA100 Wireless Compliance Institute will host an “Inside ISA100 Center” on the exhibit floor, packed with information, resources, and experts from around the world. The ISA100 committee is focused on developing a standard for the process and manufacturing industries that allows for deployment of a single wireless infrastructure able to transport information from multiple different field bus protocols becoming the “wireless 4-20ma standard” of the future. The Compliance Institute is fostering the implementation of the ISA100 standards through compliance testing and education activities. Wireless is the future of automation—you can’t afford to miss this opportunity! Stop by booth #1106 to meet the experts and discuss this important initiative.

ISA104, Electronic Device Description Language (EDDL) Demo

The ISA104 booth demonstrates the benefits of the ISA/ANSI Electronic Device Description Language (EDDL) standard for device integration driving new innovation.

End-users involved in commissioning, operations and maintenance can see how EDDL-based control systems, software, and handheld communicators simplify calibration, advanced diagnostics and setup of simple and advanced device types communicating HART, Profibus, and Foundation fieldbus using powerful graphics and wizards. Look at context sensitive help, illustrations, and other know-how provided by the manufacturer. Unparalleled look & feel consistency of content provided by device manufacturer is demonstrated. See critical device diagnostics made available to operators on a need to know basis.

End-users responsible for system configuration and management can see how EDDL-based solutions provide data synchronization between device manager and DCS, as well as automatic population of OPC servers. Learn how rigorous independent testing and registration process ensures interoperability between software and devices from many manufacturers. Find out how system investment is protected as files are not made obsolete by programs for new device versions, by Windows patches, service packs, .NET releases, or upgrade. Learn about simple integration of new devices and versions without software installation or overwriting files, or license key management.

Manufacturers can see how they can update existing DD for their devices to enhanced EDDL to unleash these capabilities in their devices and see an example of EDDL rapid development and test tools.

Wireless Tech Tour: No Wires, No Hype

WINA will sponsor a daily walking tour through the ISA EXPO 2008 exhibit hall where you will get behind-the-scenes insights from industry experts as they describe the wireless technologies and applications on display. See the latest in wireless technology in a concise spin through the hall so you can decide which exhibit you want to visit again to dig deeper. Establish connections with peers that share your interests in wireless.

ISA103, Field Device Tool (FDT) Interface Demo

The ISA103 booth highlights the end user benefits of IEC 65C/398/NP: Field Device Tool Interface Specification. FDT technology standardizes the communication interface between field devices and systems. The key feature is its independence from the communication protocol and the software environment of either the device or the host system. ISA103, in cooperation with the FDT Group, will showcase this valuable technology capability across three leading networks, HART, Profibus, and FOUNDATION TM fieldbus. Focused on the end user and plant engineers, these live demonstrations will prove device/system interoperability, ease of setup, and configuration, innovative diagnostics and standardization to ISA103 in a totally vendor neutral environment. With this, attendees will embrace this technology realizing real business benefits and lower operating costs for any application. For more information about ISA103 and FDT, please visit, www.isa.org/ISA103 and www.fdtgroup.org.

OpenO&M™ Initiative Interoperability Demo

The Oil and Gas Industry Solutions Process will be the focus of a display and information exchange hosted by MIMOSA and the OpenO&M Initiative in booth #2864. Bringing together owner/operators, key IT/IS controls suppliers, and industry standards organizations, this solutions process seeks to solve high priority industry problems under the guidance of the Oil and Gas Owner/Operator Leadership Council, which includes many of the major global oil and gas firms.

Many emerging industry problems involving operational process optimization and operational risk management require increasing levels of integration, but traditional systems integration models are not sustainable. Standards-based interoperability is the emerging model that is required to properly support such solutions, including those driven by health, safety, and environmental concerns, among others.

You are invited to come by the OpenO&M theatre and information exchange area, and participate in discussions with owner/operators, key IT/IS and controls solutions suppliers, and industry standards organization representatives on these concerns and how they are being addressed by the industry solutions process.
