Batch Markup Language (BatchML)
BatchML is an XML implementation of the ANSI/ISA 88 family of standards (ISA-88), known internationally as IEC 61512. BatchML consists of a set of XML schemas written using the World Wide Web Consortium's XML Schema language (XSD) that implement the models and terminology in the ISA-88 standard.
The ISA88 standard is recognized worldwide as the standard for the batch processing industry. BatchML provides a set of XML type and element definitions that may be used in part or in whole for batch, master recipe and equipment data. BatchML is an excellent tool to use when exchanging ISA88 based data. Any company may use BatchML royalty free provided credit is given to WBF.
BatchML V0401 is the latest version. Earlier versions are also available, however we recommend using the latest version which contains enhancements based upon user feedback. For more information on BatchML refer to the documents contained in the download. The schemas and documents are organized around ISA88 terminology and models.
BatchML V0401 contains major enhancements over the previous version (V02).
- BatchML has been placed into the B2MML namespace
- BatchML uses the B2MML common, extensions and core component schemas
- General and site recipe support has been added per ISA88 Part 3
The movement of BatchML into the B2MML namespace allows more commonality between the two markup languages and is a precursor to future BatchML support for ISA88 Part 4, Batch Production Records, which require the use of ISA95 models in ISA88.
As a result of BatchML using the B2MML common schema some BatchML V02 element names have been changed to avoid conflicts with B2MML.
The BatchML release number has been changed to match the B2MML release. As both share major components, in the future both BatchML and B2MML will be released together with the same release number.
The release notes provide a detailed list of changes in this release. Two V0401 downloads are available below, one for the schemas, the other for documentation. The V0401 downloads for BatchML and B2MML are the same files. Feedback to the WBF’s XML Committee regarding BatchML should be sent to batchml@wbf.org using the comment form.
