Types of ISA Membership, Benefits, and Dues

ISA welcomes any person who works in the instrumentation, systems, and automation profession to join as a member. Free access to knowledge, technical expertise, networking opportunities, and news about the automation profession can give all automation professionals a critical advantage and career boost. Membership in ISA’s Technical Divisions, another benefit, connects people around the world who work in the same industries and share similar interests. ISA is here to help automation professionals succeed in their careers and to support and advance the automation profession.

Member

Members are entitled to outstanding ISA benefits and privileges, are assigned to local sections, and are encouraged to become active volunteers through the many resources ISA offers. ISA offers many grades of membership to suit the varying needs of automation professionals.

Member dues: $110 US for one year, $205 US for two years, or $290 for three years.

ISA members have the opportunity to achieve numerous prestigious membership grade levels.

Senior Member

Do you have ten years of active work experience in the instrumentation, systems, and automation field? Your education and experience may qualify you to be an ISA Senior Member. An ISA member or applicant who has graduated from a baccalaureate engineering or science curriculum, with at least six years of active work experience in the instrumentation, systems, and automation field (two of which have been in a position of responsible charge) may apply for this membership grade. If not a graduate, the member/applicant must have 10 years of active work experience in the instrumentation, systems, and automation field (two of which have been in a position of responsible charge). Current ISA members may apply for Senior Member. Non-members must join ISA first and then apply for Senior Member status.

Senior Member dues: $110 US for one year, $205 US for two years, or $290 for three years.

Life Member

Have you been an ISA member for at least 25 years? You may be eligible for the prestigious Life Member grade! Any member, Senior Member, or Fellow who has been a member of ISA in good standing for a total of at least 25 years and whose combined age and years of ISA membership equals or exceeds the sum of 90 is eligible to apply for Life Member grade. Life Members are exempt from paying dues, yet receive all benefits and privileges of membership. For more information and to apply, visit the ISA Life Member web page.

Fellow

The esteemed Fellow member grade is one of the ISA’s highest honors. It can be earned by a Senior Member who is elected by a majority vote of the Society's Executive Board and who possesses outstanding and acknowledged engineering or scientific attainments; and who has been a Senior Member for at least five years; and who has received peer evaluations leading to recommendation for election by the Society Admissions Committee.

Fellow dues: $110 US for one year, $205 US for two years, or $290 for three years.

Honorary Member

Another celebrated member grade is the Honorary Member. Honorary Member is the highest honor bestowed by the Society. An Honorary Member has the rights and privileges of a Senior member.

Honorary membership is reserved for individuals (members or non members of the Society) whose support of, and/or contributions to, the advancement of the arts and sciences of instrumentation, systems, and automation are deserving of special recognition. An Honorary Member is exempt from payment of dues has all the rights and privileges enjoyed by all other grades of membership.

Reciprocal Member

ISA has reached agreements with several professional societies around the world to conduct joint programs which include discounted memberships. ISA has reciprocal membership agreements with GMA in Germany, the Institute of Instrumentation Control and Automation (IICA) in Australia, and The Institute for Measurement and Control (InstMC) in the United Kingdom. Reduced-dues Country Member

ISA offers a reduced-dues option to prospective members who reside in certain countries. These countries are classified by the World Bank Organization as low-income, lower-middle-income, or upper-middle-income economies. The World Bank Organization is a nonprofit group dedicated to fighting poverty. Members in these countries enjoy all the benefits and privileges of regular membership.

Reduced-dues Country Member dues: $55 per year

Student Member

ISA welcomes student members. An individual who is enrolled as a student in a program leading to an instrumentation-, systems-, or automation-related degree or certificate may join ISA as a student member. Student members are entitled to all ISA benefits (with the exception that they receive InTech magazine in digital version only and that they're excluded from some age-related, third-party benefit programs and from voting). They are encouraged to become active volunteers and participants through the many resources ISA offers students. Student members are assigned to local student sections or regular sections, and may join ISA technical divisions for additional networking, educational, and career-building resources. Virtual Student Member

An individual who is enrolled as a student in a program leading to an instrumentation-, systems-, or automation-related degree or certificate may join ISA even though there is no local student or regular section available. These virtual student members participate in ISA through electronic communications and are entitled to all ISA benefits (with the exception that they receive InTech magazine in digital version only and that they are excluded from some age-related, third-party benefit programs and from voting). They are encouraged to become active volunteers and participants through the many resources ISA offers students. Automation Affiliate Member

ISA has established agreements with several organizations that are members of the Automation Federation, of which ISA is the founding organization. Members of these organizations (or employees of the organizations' member companies) can join ISA as Automation Affiliate Members for $50 US per year. Automation Community Member

ISA is pleased to welcome automation professionals and ISA customers who want to sample some of the excellent benefits available to members and who want to be associated with the Society. Technical Division Member

ISA membership* includes two free technical division memberships – one from each division department (Automation and Technology Department and Industries and Sciences Department). Divisions provide technical content that relates to specific industries and technologies, and bring additional value to ISA membership. Members must sign up for division membership. ISA members may join additional divisions beyond the free ones for only $10 US per year for each division.

*Exceptions are Automation Affiliate Member and Automation Community Member grades which must pay $10 per division.
