ISA Governance Organization

The senior governing body of ISA is the Executive Board, which is composed of the President, President-elect Secretary, Past President, Treasurer, Executive Board Parliamentarian (non-voting), and six members each from the the Board of District Vice Presidents and the Board of Department Vice Presidents. In addition, the ISA Executive Director is a non-voting member of the Executive Board. The ISA Executive Committee which is comprised of the President, President-elect Secretary, Past President and current Chair of the Board of District Vice Presidents and Board of Department Vice Presidents, is a committee of the Executive Board and can act with the authority of the Executive Board in most matters.  The Executive Director is a non-voting member of the Executive Committee.

The Board of District Vice Presidents is composed of the Vice Presidents elected from each of the 14 geographical districts into which the ISA sections are grouped. The Board of District Vice Presidents reports to the Executive Board.

The Board of Department Vice Presidents is composed of the Vice Presidents elected to lead ISA's eight departments—five products (membership, publications, standards, professional development, web), two technical (Automation & Technology, Industries & Sciences), and one administrative (strategic planning). The Board of Department Vice Presidents reports to the Executive Board.

The Society Officers and the Vice Presidents are elected by the Council of Society Delegates, which consists of one delegate for each Section who represent the Section members on membership issues including elections. The entire Council elects the President-elect Secretary and one-half of the Department Vice Presidents annually and the Treasurer every other year. (The President and Past President positions are filled by elevation of the President-elect Secretary through the other offices.) The Council members from each District elect their respective District Vice President every other year so that one-half of the District Vice Presidents are elected each year.

Certain ISA activities, primarily publications that rely on advertising for support, are conducted by ISA's wholly owned subsidiary corporation, ISA Services, Inc. (ISASI). ISASI owns certain publications and publishes others under license from ISA. ISASI is governed by an independent board of directors elected by the ISA Executive Board.
