Life Achievement Award
The Life Achievement Award recognizes individuals with a history of sustained dedication to the instrumentation, systems, and automation community. This is a discretionary award of the Society and thus is not presented annually.
2009 Honoree
Peter G. Martin, Ph.D.

In recognition of a three-decade career in the development of dynamic performance measurement technology and the sharing of these innovations through publication, global speaking engagements, and product application.
About:
Dr. Martin is Vice President of Strategic Ventures at Invensys Process Systems. Dr. Martin’s patented “dynamic performance measures (DPMs)” method of providing instantaneous, high-resolution dollar-value feedback of process conditions shows manufacturers an innovative and meaningful way to optimize their economic performance by fine tuning their operations based on the real-time business impact of their process decisions. He holds patents in the areas of real-time accounting, performance measurement, and economic optimization of process manufacturing operations.
Dr. Martin has authored numerous papers and articles in the field of automation and real-time performance management. He has also authored and co-authored three book titles. Dr. Martin has an extensive history and background in the process automation business, spanning 30 years at The Foxboro Company, Invensys Process Systems, and ARC Advisory Group, in engineering, product planning, marketing and strategic planning, consulting, and new ventures.
He holds BA and MS degrees in Mathematics, an MA degree in Administration and Management, a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, and MS and Ph.D. degrees in Biblical Studies.
Award and Presentation:
Due to the criteria for nomination and approval, it is not anticipated that this award will be given each year. The award consists of a plaque. Presentation is made at the annual honors and awards program.
Qualifications:
Any member, of any grade, however a minimum of three years must have elapsed following membership on the Society Executive Board, Society Board of Department Vice Presidents, and Board of District Vice Presidents in order to be considered, is eligible. It is expected that the nominee have a history of dedication to the instrumentation, systems, and automation community.
Nomination:
Nomination of an individual for Life Achievement may be made by any member of the Society. Nominations are made in writing on the appropriate form and should include a description of the contributions of the nominee. The Life Achievement Awardee(s), or their designate, must accept the Award in the selected year.
