Donald P. Eckman Award

The Donald P. Eckman Award, established in 1963, recognizes an outstanding contribution(s) toward education and training in the science, engineering and technology of instrumentation, systems, and automation. The award is a memorial to Dr. Donald P. Eckman, formerly of Case-Western Reserve University, to recognize profound individual accomplishments and contributions to instrumentation.

Alexander V. Bobovich

For outstanding contributions to education and training in the science, engineering and technology of instrumentation, systems, and automation.

About:

Bobovich has held several positions at St. Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation (SUAI) where he now serves as Vice-Director of the North-West Center of Information Technologies. Bobovich has authored more than 100 papers, reports, USSR certificates, and books during his career of almost 40 years. His book, Hardware and Software for Designing the Robot Control Systems, was recommended by the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Education as the text book for university students studying robotics. He was also involved in the creation of the Russian Federation Ministry of Education’s System of Centers of Information Technologies.

Bobovich received an M.S. in Computer Science from the Leningrad Institute of Aerospace Instrumentation in 1976. Bobovich is a member of the Council of International Scientific-Technical Society of the Instrument Engineers and Metrologists (ISTSIEM) and was awarded their highest award – Vavilov’s Medal – in 2002. Bobovich also received ISA’s Don W. Thompson Award in 2003 and was elected to the grade of ISA Fellow in 2005.

Award and Presentation:

The Donald P. Eckman Education Award may be conferred annually and carries a $1,000 honorarium and plaque. Presentation is made at the annual honors and awards program.

Qualifications:

This award is open to any person. It is intended to honor those whose achievements have had a significant beneficial influence on education and training programs for instrumentation, systems, and automation. While the nominees will most often be individuals involved in academic or industrial education, systems, and automation or training programs, the award is open to any individual who has contributed substantially to the improvement of instrumentation, systems, and automation education and training programs or who has demonstrated outstanding capability in the implementation of such programs.

Nomination:

Nomination of an individual for the Donald P. Eckcman Education Award is accepted from any individual. Nominations are made in writing on the appropriate form.
