Description:

"Good overview of Subject." - Alva Neal

Boiler explosions have resulted in loss of major facilities as well as loss of life. With emphasis in the industry on process safety, the design of Burner Management Systems is now more important than ever. This seminar provides an understanding of the boiler burner standards and why they are so critical to this industry.

You will be able to:

  • Define resources for defining design criteria
  • Evaluate considerations for BMS design
  • Understand the primary causes of furnace explosions
  • Explain primary shutdowns as defined by NFPA 85 Code
  • Understand pre-firing purge requirements for both single, and multiple-burner boilers
  • Discuss alarms, interlocks and emergency shutdown systems
  • Interpret the format of individual safety standards and how to use them appropriately
  • NFPA 85 Boiler and Combustion Systems Hazards Code, other safety-related standards, and how they apply to BMS

You will cover:

  • NFPA 85 Boiler and combustion Systems Code 2004: Format | Use | Cross referencing information | Application to different types of boilers
  • ANSI/ISA-84.01-1996 standard: Application to boilers
  • BMS design: Considerations | Requirements for Independence / Requirements Logical Solver
  • Single and Multiple Burner Boilers: Permissives | Shut downs | Alarms | Purge Requirements | Requirements Comparison
  • Definitions: SIS and SIL as Applied to Boilers
