Terminology
Backup link active scheduler On each segment, a process runs called the link active scheduler. It's the time keeper and scheduler of the segment and gives FF determinism. If it fails, backup link active scheduler takes over. It resides in one of the field devices. It gives FF a unique level of fault tolerance.
