ISA South Jersey Section

Who We Are:

The ISA South Jersey Section was organized in 1968, and was an outgrowth of the Philadelphia Section. Its purpose is to establish and maintain a forum for South Jersey engineers and technicians interested in the advancement of the theory, design, manufacture, and application and use of sensors, instruments, computers, and systems for measurement and control. To continually excel in the provision of services to the Society and to the Industry.

Accomplishments include significant input into Society's technical, research, and standards committees, including Section members assigned to national and district committees. The South Jersey Section annually sponsors local meetings and seminars on instrumentation and systems and other technical issues, holds Basic and Advanced Level I, II, and III training courses on instrumentation and systems, and provides partial scholarships to deserving engineering students at local universities.

The Section holds 7 monthly meetings a year beginning in September, the majority of which are held in the Cherry Hill, NJ area. The remaining meetings are social functions which include Field Trips, Joint Section Meetings and Annual Golf Outing.

About the ISA:

ISA, The International Society of Automation, is an iorganization of approximately 38,000 members in 100 countries, including engineers, technicians, and other professionals and practitioners within the field of instrumentation, systems and automation. There are 190 ISA Sections that serve local members. There are 21 Technical Divisions in ISA. The Society was organized in 1945, as the Instrument Society of America in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Society grew out of the desire of 18 local instrument societies to form a national organization. Its objectives as stated in the Bylaws, "....to advance and to reinforce the arts and sciences related to the theory, design, manufacture and use of instrumentation, computers and systems for measurement and control in the various sciences and technologies for the benefit of mankind."

The Society continues to expand its products and services, increasing the size and scope of the ISA conference and exhibition, developing symposia, offering professional development and training, adding to technical Divisions, and even producing films about measurement and control. Each year through its Honors and Awards program ISA recognizes outstanding technical contributions by individuals to the instrumentation, systems, and automation profession. Education scholarships are also a priority for ISA. Major publications include the Society's official publication, The InTech Magazine, which contains information on technical news and products; the ISA News and Views, a members only monthly which features news and relevant information for all ISA members; ISA Directory; On-line ISA Standards access; E-News & Views; Motion Control Magazine; and ISA Transactions, a quarterly publication that prints the best articles about measurement and control.
