Program:
Safety standards IEC 61508 and 61511 have become well known and accepted over the past few years.
But while most engineers feel they understand the requirements, the use and implementation of these
standards varies depending on the experience of the user. What is needed is a set of tools for the
use of these standards that can be geared to most industries and projects.
Come and learn a systematic approach to the design of safety systems that is life cycle based and
provides a cost effective solution without sacrificing overall plant safety.

Speaker:
Romel Bhullar, PE, is an ISA Fellow and Technical Fellow & Technical Director with
Fluor Corporation in Aliso Viejo, California. He has over 30 years of in depth experience in process
automation, system and enterprise integration of refineries, gas processing, LNG, pipe line and power industries.
He has designed, engineered, and help startup many mega projects, throughout the world. He has authored several
technical articles in process control, automation and system integration. He holds a post graduate degree in
chemical engineering, an MBA, a certificate in “Advanced Computer Engineering” and is a licensed professional
engineer in the State of California.

Mark H. Murphy, PE, is is a Control Systems Engineer with over 25 years of experience in process automation, instrumentation
and controls for refinery, petrochemical and power plants. He currently works for Fluor Corporation
as a principal engineer where he is responsible for very large scale automation projects. He has published several articles and made
presentations at major conferences. He is registered profession engineer in California and other states.
